Canary Islands

The "Canaries" are a popular European tourist destination. Its beaches, climate and volcanic landscape draw in more than 12 million visitors each year. Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are the most visited islands. Due to the volcanic origin, the diving interesting if you like caves, tunnels and rocky formations. There is no coral, but due to the cold, nutritious current the water attracts almost 700 species of marine life, including turtles and dolphins.

There are 3 Marine Reserves in the Canaries:

  1. La Restinga Marine Reserve on the island of El Hierro
  2. Marine Reserve of the southwestern coast of the island of La Palma
  3. Marine Reserve Island of La Graciosa; next to Lanzarote; this is thelargest protected marine area in Europe.
