Santa Maria

As the most southern island of the Azores, Santa Maria has a warmer, drier climate and is therefore known as the island of sun or yellow island. Santa Maria has become a popular diving destination during summer because of two reasons: Whale Sharks and schools of Mobulas! Apart from these amazing creatures, Santa Maria has several other 5-star divespots and is one of the best islands in the Azores for diving.

Santa Maria is the oldest and one of the smallest islands in the Azores with a population of 5,000 inhabitants. It’s about 80km south of São Miguel. The island has a jagged coastline with high rocky headlands and wide bays. There are about a dozen good divespots to explore.
