Bundaberg Area & Fraser Island

Bundaberg is lesser known with travelers, making it more tranquil and relaxed than its northern counterpart Cairns. Yet, it is filled with great vacation opportunities both on- and off-shore. The most spectacular and famous island just off the coast is Fraser Island: the largest sand island in the world with some interesting shipwrecks and artificial reefs. Lady Elliot Island and Heron Island are also offer great diving possibilities.

There are a couple of diving highlights to consider in this area. Firstly, you can visit the southern parts of the Great Barrier Reef. The southern reefs are near Bundaberg. Somewhat less famous than their northern counterparts, but equally worthwhile, the southern parts of the Great Barrier Reef offer great visibility, an abundance of marine life and some beautiful island gateways for a paradise like diving trip.
