The best way to decide where to go is to determine a) your level of diving and b) the type of (tourist) destination that fits your needs. Do you want to relax, are you OK with all-inclusive mass tourist resorts, do you want backpacker style, etc.
Egypt can be divided into three diving areas and the further south you go, the less touristy it becomes:
- Sinai – Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab, Taba
- The South Coast – El Gouna, Hurghada, Safaga, El Quseir
- The Far South – Marsa Alam, Berenice, Hamata
The most renowned National Parks and dive sites are Ras Mohammed, Straights of Tiran (Sinai), The Brothers (South), Elphinstone Reef, Deadalus Reef, St. Johns and Zabargad (Far South).
